On June 27, 2022, the murder of sixteen-year-old Ariana Lashkari by her father, Mohammad-Kazem Lashkari, in Nourabad-e Mamasani, Fars Province, has once again brought attention to the absence of laws addressing "honor killings" in Iran. Allegedly, Ariana was shot in the chest with a hunting rifle by her father after he found her laughing with a boy at a park. Prior to the incident, Ariana had fled to her paternal grandmother's home following an argument with her father over her behavior, which he deemed disgraceful to the family. Mohammad-Kazem Lashkari claimed after his arrest that he had intended only to scare his daughter and killed her in a moment of rage.
