On September 28, 2023, in Rabat, a 16-year-old girl named Haydeh Hassanzadeh was brutally murdered by her own family in what is considered an honor killing. According to Hengaw, on September 18, Haydeh's body was discovered by citizens while discharging water inside the Sardasht city dam, four months after her killing. She was found with her feet tied to a cement block and her hands, eyes, and mouth sealed with tape. Haydeh had disappeared since June of the same year, with her family falsely claiming that she had left Iran to conceal the murder.
Informed sources revealed that Omid Hassanzadeh, Haydeh's father, is currently arrested and has confessed to the murder of his daughter. The motive behind Haydeh's murder was attributed to her coming home late, which was considered an honor-related issue.
