On April 14, Maryam Soleymani, a 28-year-old woman from Ghazlakh village in Khoy, West Azerbaijan province, was killed after photos and videos of her appeared on social media, sparking rumors of extramarital affairs. Lured back to her parental home, Soleymani was subjected to having her hair shaved off and was beaten and tortured by her two brothers and father, culminating in her being hanged. Soleymani, married off at 13, leaves behind three children.
