Masoumeh Mahki, a 29-year-old from Damrostam village in Kuhdasht county, Lorestan province, and mother to a 9-year-old daughter, Sogol, was killed on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. A victim of child marriage at 15, Mahki had separated from her addicted husband and had recently begun a relationship with a man named Ruhollah, with plans to marry. Her father, Kahzad Mahki, who had previously assaulted her for her relationship and social activities, fatally shot her with a hunting rifle following an argument, citing honor and dignity as his motives. Local women commented on the tragedy, noting Mahki's desire for a considerate and rational marriage as her only fault.
