On December 17, 2020, the body of a deceased young woman was discovered near the desolate village of Aliabad in Iran’s Isfahan province. Following the identification of the victim, authorities visited her family, where Shida’s father promptly confessed to her murder. Acquaintances of the victim have characterized the killing as an honor crime.
In Iran, instances of fathers killing their daughters due to "honor-related motives" are not uncommon. Such tragedies have occurred when daughters expressed desires to marry of their own choice, opposed arranged marriages, or faced consequences after experiencing rape. Witnesses indicate that Shida was held accountable for returning home late.
