On October 4, 2023, Yeganeh Rostami, a 23-year-old resident of Mahallat, was killed by her uncle in an alleged honor killing with a hunting rifle. She was en route from Mahallat to Tehran for job hunting when her uncle intercepted her bus in Qom and fatally shot her in the head. Notably, Rostami had separated from her former husband just two days prior to the incident.
